Sustainability at ZVB

Our core mission—public transportation—is, by its very nature, a sustainable product. But we want to do more, and we are committed to finding long-term, sensible solutions that benefit everyone. This philosophy has been an integral part of ZVB for a long time.

Sustainability Program

As a company, we naturally act in accordance with sustainable principles in many areas and put them into practice every day. With our ZVB Sustainability Program, we highlight our existing commitment and take concrete, conscious action in the three dimensions of environment, social responsibility, and economy. We focus on issues where we can truly make a difference.

  • Environment: We reduce CO2 emissions, promote ecological measures, and optimize our use of resources.
  • Social: We create attractive working conditions, are committed to ensuring our employees are happy and healthy, and support their professional development.
  • Economy: We make mobility possible for everyone while using taxpayer funds responsibly. We are competitive and open to new ideas.

2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The 2030 Agenda is the global framework for sustainable development. It was adopted in 2015 by all UN member states with the goal of collectively achieving the goals by 2030. It consists of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which cover the broad spectrum of sustainable development issues—from poverty reduction and climate action to responsible economic management. Switzerland, too, is called upon to implement these goals at the national level.

Through our ZVB Sustainability Program, we are contributing to several of these goals. By offering attractive apprenticeships in various trades and training adults—including those changing careers—to become bus drivers, we are committed to high-quality education and lifelong learning for all. Furthermore, with the construction of our new main depot, we are investing in sustainable infrastructure. The ongoing transition to CO2-neutral scheduled service supports not only sustainable mobility and better air quality in our cities and communities but also the development of alternative propulsion technologies.
